PERCEPTION-ACTION COUPLING MELBOURNE GOAL
MY TAKE
Perception-Action Coupling is a must for all team sports and in a nutshell, refers to reacting to what you see.
Now WHAT you see is dependant is how many different scenarios you've been exposed and also how many different solutions you've attempted to solve whatever problems arise within them.
Ideally you want to have been exposed to many different scenarios and situations in training and games so that you can start developing high game intelligence from being able to recognise patterns of play and the cues within those plays to be able to anticipate the next game action and therefore be able to react faster then your opposition.
This isn't exactly that but what the Melbourne player does in this instance is that in the time it took for her to drop the ball within her kicking action to the ball getting to her foot (.185secs by my timing method), she realised that if she was to kick the ball as it was, that it would be smothered.
In the .4secs she took to regather the ball afer not going through the kick, she regathered it and had a free swing at the kick under zero pressure.
This type of skill and play recognition can only be built in game type training, not cone to cone drills - just sayin.
