In the last few seasons Carlton has been below average in there game plan defensively and offensively.
From what I could see, and I watched every game, they would apply low pressure around the ball resulting in having to defend and initiate their offense from right back in their defensive 50, and then try and play too fast from there and simply run out of forwards to kick to, and loose defenders would continually intercept and the cycle would start again.
Enter season 8 in 2023 and it's a new coach, and a full time at that, in Matthew Buck, an old mate of mine who I haven't seen since I left Warrnambool in mid 2000's!
Obviously I was very interested to see what Bucky was able to do with a decent sized pre-season compared to all the others in AFLW but a list with decent turnover at the same time thanks to expansion.
If you watched the game they applied super pressure around the ball all game long with 91 tackles, winning clearances 28-24 and just losing contested possession 104-108 against the likes of Charlie Rowbottom who is the Patrick Cripps of the AFLW, along with Bri Davey.
This enables them to get the ball into their forward half where at one point in the 2nd quarter it was 73% to 23% forward half time in the Blues favor and this video shows a great example of how they were able to do this...
